Cape Forchu Lightstation

Cape Forchu Lightstation Yarmouth, Nova Scotia

Let Karen tell the Story

Cape Forchu Lightstation Nova ScotiaUnlike any lighthouse I have visited so far, Cape Forchu Lightstation is a brightly colored white and red striped concrete column pushing into the sky. Originally built in 1840, the lighthouse was replaced with the concrete column in 1962.

Well worth the visit, including the drive out to the spit of land, the lightstation dominates, with its marshes, wildflowers and water views. Once at the end of Cape Forchu’s rugged, rocky headland is the Lightstation with gift shop, restaurant and history of the lighthouse with example of the beacon which is housed at the top.

Don’t miss the Leif Ericson Trail, an easy walking trail with the view of False Harbour and walk around to Yarmouth Harbour on the other side. Short walk among large rocks with pools and lots of rosehip plants.

Took our time here and also enjoyed a great lunch…outside with the view of the Harbour and the Lightstation.
