Lunenburg Walking Tours

There is no better way to experience the spectacular sites and atmosphere of Lunenburg’s historic streetscapes and working waterfront than on foot.  Lunenburg Walking Tours was created to offer visitors to our UNESCO World Heritage Site town – one of only two such urban sites in North America – an educational and entertaining directed walk through history. Co-owners/operators Shelah Allen and Ashlee Feener, both from founding families, artfully weave historic facts into a tapestry of authentic tales and personal stories that are sure to delight visitors.

There are plenty of hills in Lunenburg, but our routes are selected to minimize steep rises and are always at a gentle stroll pace, suitable for most folks with average mobility. We are happy to walk rain or shine, unless there is a fear of drowning in the deluge! We operate year-round, by appointment, with our Anchor Tours offered daily on a regularly scheduled basis from June 1 to September 30. For more information on our schedule please refer to our tour calendar: www.lunenburgwalkingtours.com/tour-calendar

Essential Lunenburg: With spectacular sites around every corner in Old Town Lunenburg, this hour-long tour is brimming with local history and 18th century and Victorian architecture, including interior access to St John’s Anglican Church. This is far more than a walking tour; it’s a destination event which creates a framework for a well-rounded Lunenburg experience. The tour starts at the Lunenburg Academy grounds (97 Kaulbach Street, free parking).  Cost: $20 Adult / $10 Youth

Haunted Lunenburg: What terror and mayhem await in the darkened streets and cemetery of this old town? Well, just enough to keep you on your toes but not too frightened. The stories of the past, and even of today, seep from the spectacular 18th-century and Victorian buildings along the route. For an hour our guides will fill your head with tales of hangings and hauntings, superstitions and sightings, all by lantern light. Tour starts at the Mariner King Inn (15 King Street) and winds its way gently up to Hillcrest Cemetery on Gallows Hill. The outing is open for all ages but parents are asked to consider the suitability of their child for such a tour. Cost: $20 Adult / $10 Youth
