At Big Spruce Brewing, we brew only unfiltered, unpasteurized, unbelievably good beer, using certified organic hops we grow ourselves. Drop by our on-farm brewery in Nyanza to taste and pick up a growler of our beer. Be sure to stop in on Food Truck Friday, where we feature a local food truck or farmer from 11:30 am to 6 pm every Friday throughout the summer. In true Cape Breton style, there is also live music starting at 3 pm.  Ask us about our special feature, Beer Floats, a delicious summertime treat! You can also find Big Spruce beers at the Cape Breton Farmers' Market and a Nova Scotian tap near you.

 

We started our little brewery brewing just two flagship beers: Cereal Killer Oatmeal Stout and Kitchen Party Pale Ale. These still remain as part of our year round line up. We have added Ready Yer Knot…Regatta Red Irish Red Ale, Bitter Get’er India Black IPA, and You Spin Me White Round Wheat IPA as our other year rounds. We also like to keep our brewing interesting, so are constantly producing single or limited batches of one-off or seasonal beers.

 

Our farm enjoys a gently sloped, south facing exposure facing Nyanza Bay on the Bras D’Or Lake (Canada’s Inland Sea, and a UNESCO Biosphere Reserve). This sunny position tempers the arrival of fall and provides a solid, sometimes long, growing season. We grow our certified organic hops, have an apple orchard, and a small market garden.
