Thinkers Lodge National Historic Site

The Pugwash Conferences of Science and World Affairs got their start in 1957 when visionary industrialist Cyrus Eaton hosted 22 scientists from both sides of the Iron Curtain to discuss the threat of nuclear weapons. This conference and its spiritual leader, Joseph Rotblat, were awarded the Nobel Peace Prize in 1995. Declared a National Historic Site in 2008, the property’s historical significance is richly interpreted throughout the Lodge; Rotblat’s Nobel Medal is on display, as well as the Lenin Peace Prize won by Cyrus Eaton in 1960. International conferences, workshops, and educational events have been held here continuously since 1955.

The waterfront grounds, adjacent to the grounds of Eaton Park, include the only fully restored wooden lobster factory building in Nova Scotia and provide panoramic views of Pugwash Harbour.
